Dear Friends,

Thank you for your partnership with SIM Australia and our tax-deductible arm, SIMaid.

You may have heard recently about the catastrophic damage Cyclone Idai has caused in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. The number of people declared dead from this cyclone has reached over 700, however, this figure is expected to rise with hundreds injured and many more unaccounted for.

Please pray for Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi as an estimated 1.7 million people are said to be affected across southern Africa.

As well as hundreds of thousands of people being forced to flee their homes because of the floodwaters, many are in desperate need of food, water, clothing, shelter and medicine.

The UN has said that when the full extent of damage is known, it could be the most severe weather-related disaster recorded in the southern hemisphere.

While we are calling on our partners to join us in praying for God’s provision for those affected by Cyclone Idai, the SIM community also has the opportunity to contribute financially to immediate relief efforts through SIM Australia’s aid and development arm, SIMaid.

Help us demonstrate Jesus’ love to people affected by Cyclone Idai by supporting SIMaid’s tax-deductible Emergency Relief Fund (68001)

The SIMaid Emergency Relief Fund will distribute aid to all three countries, according to need and urgency.

The SIM team in Mozambique, which was the country hardest hit by Cyclone Idai, will be partnering with local businesses and other mission organisations (such as YWAM, Frontiers, GIA and New Tribes) to provide basic aid to the people in the Dombe district. Mozambique will be using the financial support to access, transport and distribute maize and beans.

SIM Zimbabwe will be partnering with the Red Cross and other local partners to provide food, sanity wear, school materials and also repair one bridge that links five communities to the rest of the country.

The SIM team in Malawi will also be assisting those affected by Cyclone Idai by sourcing and distributing food to the most needy. SIM Malawi is partnering with the Evangelical Association of Malawi to provide relief.

Please consider giving a tax-deductible gift towards SIMaid’s Emergency Relief Fund (68001). Your support will help provide practical relief to those who are suffering because of this natural disaster.

Thanks for your partnership with SIM and we ask that you uplift these three countries in prayer. Together we can express the love of Christ to those vulnerable in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi

In Him,

Malcolm Watts

SIM Australia Interim National Director
